Practice Experience
Greg Starner is a partner in the US Disputes Group with a broad range of trial and appellate experience in complex commercial cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States and in domestic and international arbitrations.

Recent work includes representing: 
  • A state-owned foreign defeasance entity in complex civil litigation in federal court involving allegations of fraud and breach of contract 
  • A Fortune 500 company in a securities fraud class action involving claims under Section 10(b) of the Securities Act of 1933 and SEC Rule 10b-5 
  • A petroleum refining and marketing company in an antitrust class action involving claims under Section 1 of the Sherman Act 
  • A major foreign bank in an insurance arbitration involving US securities fraud claims under Sections 11 and 12(a)(2) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 
  • A US cable company in a domestic AAA arbitration concerning a long-term contract with its billing and customer services provider

Mr. Starner has also represented debtors and creditors in significant bankruptcies, including: 
  • Washington Mutual, the largest bank failure in United States history, where Mr. Starner serves as litigation counsel to the Washington Mutual Noteholders Group, the key stakeholders in Washington Mutual's chapter 11 proceeding 
  • Charter Communications, where Mr. Starner is representing the indentured trustee, the Law Debenture Trust Company of New York, with respect to claims involving US$479 million in Charter Communications' convertible senior notes 
  • Texas Rangers, where Mr. Starner acted as litigation counsel to an investment group headed by Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenberg with respect to the successful acquisition of the Texas Rangers 
  • Heartland Automotive, the largest independent franchisee and operator of Jiffy Lube quick-lube service centers in the United States, where Mr. Starner served as litigation counsel to the debtors in their successful chapter 11 reorganization

In addition, Mr. Starner works on a number of pro bono projects, including: 
  • Representing low-income women in family law cases in New York state courts 
  • Participating as a faculty member in an annual Kenya Women's Advocacy Training Program co-sponsored by Lawyers Without Borders, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the US Department of State 
  • Representing criminal defendants in New York state appeals
