Practitioner Recognition
White & Case matter Aguaytia v. Peru won a 2009 "Deal of the Year Award" from Latin Lawyer. Latin Lawyer recognized White & Case for its representation of the Republic of Peru in its victory in Aguaytia v. Peru, a US$150 million energy arbitration before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes in Washington, DC. The team that worked on the matter included Jonathan Hamilton, Carolyn Lamm, Abby Cohen Smutny, Francis Vasquez, Mairée Uran-Bidegain (Washington, DC) and Rafael Llano Oddone (New York).
Paul Friedland (New York) was one of two recipients of the 2010 Outstanding Director Award at the Annual Board meeting of the American Arbitration Association on 29 April.
Legal Times named partner Carolyn Lamm (Washington, DC) one of its "Visionaries" for 2010 for her role as president in leading the American Bar Association. "Visionaries," according to Legal Times, are "attorneys whose business or legal acumen has been key to expanding their firms, improving government or advancing the law."
Carolyn Lamm (Washington, DC) was selected by the editors of The National Law Journal as one of "Washington's Most Influential Women Lawyers."

Abby Cohen Smutny (Washington, DC) was recently elected a member of the American Law Institute (ALI). Together with ALI member Carolyn B. Lamm (Washington, DC), Abby is an adviser to ALI's current project, focused on preparing a Restatement of the US Law of International Commercial Arbitration.
