Marat Ibragimov is a leading authority on Kazakhstan civil and corporate law as well as subsoil use legislation with a focus on the oil and gas and mining sectors. He has broad experience in mergers and acquisitions, litigation and capital markets.

His recent experience includes:

• Representing a Chinese company in the acquisition of a Kazakhstan limited liability partnership that owns oil and gas subsurface use rights in Kazakhstan;
• representing Tengizchevroil in a US$1.1 billion limited recourse bond issue and in a US$3.3 billion pari passu partner loan financing for the expansion of the Tengizchevroil oil project in Kazakhstan with ABN AMRO Bank and Lehman Brothers as Lead Managers;
• representing KazMunaiGas Exploration Production in its US$2.3 billion offering of shares and Global Depository Receipts on the London Stock Exchange;
• representing Zhaikmunai L.P. on its US$100 million offering of Global Depository Receipts on the London Stock Exchange;
• Oriel Resources Plc in the purchase of Kazakhstan companies having rights to nickel, cobalt and chrome deposits and the subsequent financing of processing facilities;
• advising a Canadian "junior" mining company in the acquisition of an interest in an existing joint venture to explore and extract precious metals;
• representing the Swiss oil company Telf AG in the establishment of a number of joint venture projects in oil and gas extraction/development and the acquisition of the controlling interest in a refinery;
• representing a group of foreign investors in obtaining several licenses for the exploration and development of the Tasbulat, Aktas and Turkmenoy oil fields; and
• representing foreign investors engaged in the creation of a large number of gold mining joint ventures and in obtaining licenses for the related exploration and mining, including Altyn-Tas, Altyn-Moonstone, Bakhit-Moonstone, Agadir, Satpayevskoe, Ulytau, and Stepniak Mining.

Before joining White & Case in 1996, Mr. Ibragimov practiced law as a private attorney representing foreign investors and as an associate of a large international law firm in Kazakhstan.
