Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its White Collar Practice with the addition of Ladan Stewart as a partner in New York.

"As a seasoned US Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement attorney and civil litigator with 20 years of experience, Ladan brings valuable expertise as we continue to strategically enhance our white collar, investigations, securities and financial institution litigation footprint and capabilities in the US," said Joel M. Cohen, Global Head of White & Case's Global White Collar Practice. "Ladan's most recent role as the head of the SEC's specialized crypto and cyber litigation unit is a significant asset given the heightened regulatory scrutiny of the crypto industry in recent years. Ladan is extraordinarily well positioned to counsel crypto industry players and defend them against regulatory or private actions."

Before joining White & Case, Stewart served for more than eight years in the Division of Enforcement of the SEC. In her most recent role as Assistant Director and Regional Trial Counsel heading the SEC's crypto and cyber litigation unit, Stewart was charged with building a brand new trial unit—the first ever specialized litigation unit at the SEC—and overseeing the agency's crypto litigation program. Stewart was part of the leadership team responsible for developing and implementing the SEC's enforcement strategy with respect to crypto and cyber matters, working closely with staff and senior officials across the agency. She also litigated the SEC's most complex and programmatically important crypto enforcement matters, including the SEC's first-ever litigated actions against crypto trading platforms for failing to register their operations with the SEC. In addition to her work in the crypto and cyber space, Stewart investigated and litigated a broad range of potential violations of the federal securities laws, including investment adviser and broker-dealer misconduct, disclosure violations, offering frauds, and insider trading.

Prior to her tenure at the SEC, Stewart was in private practice for 12 years with two international law firms, where she represented individuals and corporations in regulatory enforcement and white collar matters, as well as securities and commercial litigation.

"Due to her vast experience at the forefront of the SEC's Division of Enforcement, Ladan will provide superior counsel to advise clients undergoing SEC examinations or investigations, and to help clients bolster their compliance programs to minimize the likelihood of future SEC scrutiny," said Nicole Erb, White & Case partner and Regional Section Head. "Ladan's arrival further strengthens our White Collar bench in SEC enforcement, investigations and civil litigation as the Firm continues to strategically invest in key practices in the US market."

White & Case also recently bolstered its White Collar practice in Paris with the addition of Commercial Litigation partners Kami Haeri and Alexandre Kiabski, both of whom have broad white collar crime and investigations experience.
