I am certain she will make us proud with her continued academic success and future professional pursuits."
Japparova, who was recognized during an awards ceremony held at KIMEP on 28 October 2011, was selected from among five shortlisted candidates out of a total of 55 applicants. The finalists were invited to meet with a panel of White & Case lawyers to present their candidacies.
The Yuriy Maltsev Scholarship was established in memory of White & Case partner Yuriy Maltsev, who founded and led the Firm’s Almaty office until his untimely passing in 2010. In addition to donating US$10,000 to one LL.M. scholarship this year, White & Case is contributing another US$10,000 to create the Yuriy Maltsev Commercial Law Library at KIMEP. In 2012 and subsequent years, the Firm will fund two individual LL.M. scholarships.
The scholarship programme is an example of the Firm's commitment to the development of legal education throughout the world. Other legal education programmes recently undertaken by White & Case include an agreement to team up with the Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University; the Firm's global sponsorship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the world's largest moot court competition; and the opening of the White & Case Law Library in the Kingdom of Bhutan, the country’s first such law library
