Fraport Fights Manila Airport Award
January 18, 2008, Global Arbitration Review
Fraport GA, a German airport operations company, has registered an annulment request with the ICSID regarding the court’s decision in Fraport’s claim against the Philippines. Fraport is a partner in PIATCO, a consortium that filed a $425 million arbitration claim against the Philippines after the government ended PIATCO’s contract for construction and operation of Terminal 3 of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Carolyn Lamm, a partner in the International Arbitration Practice at White & Case in Washington, DC, who acted as counsel for the Republic of the Philippines, said, "This eminent and experienced tribunal carefully considered Fraport's legal arguments and evidence. The well-reasoned award speaks for itself. The Philippines is confident that the result is just and legally correct and will respond to Fraport's annulment petition accordingly."
White & Case partners Abby Cohen Smutny, Frank Vasquez, Christopher Curran, and Jonathan Hamilton, counsel Frank Panopoulos, Anne Smith, and Jaime Crowe and associates Eckhard Hellbeck, Jeremy Sharpe, Matthew Leddicote, Megan Smith, Hansel Pham, and Epaminontas Triantafilou also advised on the case.
