His significant track record in this area, which spans a period of more than 15 years, has made him a valued resource for clients seeking to execute challenging deals. Matters to which he brings particular insight and experience include domestic and cross-border transactions (including auction processes) in the energy and real estate sector (portfolio transactions), and privatizations.

Clients benefit from Carsten’s commercial approach and his ability to advise on both strategic and private equity transactions, as well as his familiarity with the markets in which they operate. Significant deals he has worked on include Vattenfall Europe AG’s sale of 50Hertz Transmission GmbH to Elia System Operator.

Prior to joining White & Case in January of 2007, Carsten worked for a number of years in the Mergers & Acquisitions practice of another Leading International Law Firm.

Advising Vattenfall Europe New Energy GmbH on the sale of its 85.5 percent majority shareholding in the waste incineration plant "Müllverwertung Borsigstraße GmbH" in Hamburg to Stadtreinigung Hamburg, the city's waste handling company.

Advising Vattenfall on the sale of its German facility services operations, including VSG GmbH (and its shareholding in TeGeMa Gesellschaft für technisches Gebäude-Management mbH) and Hanuman FO GmbH, to ISS Facility Services GmbH, a subsidiary of the Danish company ISS Global A/S. Also advised Vattenfall on the conclusion of a long-term service agreement regarding facility operations services.

Advising the German Ministry of Finance on the €471 million sale of TLG Wohnen GmbH to MDAX listed TAG Immobilien AG, and on the €1.1 billion sale of TLG IMMOBILIEN GmbH to private equity investor Lone Star.

Advising Vattenfall Europe AG on the sale of its 25 percent share in the Rostock hard-coal fired power plant to RheinEnergie AG, Cologne.
