Biography

Overview

Dominik Stier is a local partner in the Disputes Section for Commercial Litigation based in Frankfurt.

Dominik represents national and multinational clients in complex litigation and liability matters in a variety of industries. He has extensive trial experience in conflicts in the financial, private equity and real estate industry, in particular regarding investments, complex contracts, securities, derivatives and insurance policies.

His practice includes a broad array of corporate litigation, such as shareholder disputes, M&A-matters, and directors' and officers' liability.

Dominik further handles technology-related disputes, including internet law and IT-contract disputes as well as data protection liability. He also advises and represents clients in follow-on cartel damage and professional liability cases.

Having advised in numerous cross-border disputes, Dominik gained in-depth knowledge of jurisdiction, enforcement of judgments and applicable law in an international context.

In 2018, Dominik spent several months on secondment in our London office. Prior joining White & Case in 2015, he had gained experience working as a research assistant for another renowned international law firm and served his legal traineeship with a commercial law firm in Sydney/Australia.

Representing and advising several companies in contractual disputes regarding IT-projects.

Representation of a leading German Bank against a listed Software company suing for (unjustified) information and license measurement.

Representing and advising a payment service provider in a lawsuit against its former board member who has committed various breaches of duty.

Representing and advising a company in a M&A dispute regarding the sale of a payment service provider.

Representing and advising a hospitality company in a large-scale shareholder dispute.

Advising a listed Scandinavian Company regarding a construction liability case.

Representation of a leading German bank against an actuarial expert in connection with a deficient actuarial report which has caused a damage of several million euros.

Representing a leading foreign bank in exequatur proceedings.

Representing a leading European bank in a post-IPO dispute with its former shareholder.

Representing several banks and a German DAX-40 company regarding potential civil redress claims arising out of tax driven securities transactions.

Representing Hamburg Commercial Bank (former HSH Nordbank) in several lawsuits filed by investors.

Representation of Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, Helaba, Nord/LB, HSH Nordbank, Berlin Hyp, Landesbank Berlin, Sparkasse Cologne/Bonn in proceedings related to claims against HETA Asset Resolution AG.

Internal investigations into a series of subsidy fraud cases involving considerable reputational and financial risk; review of the prospects of success of various recourse actions against financial brokers and purchasers and sellers of vessels involved; conducting action before the Regional Court for repayment of loans which had been obtained by way of fraud.
