Overview

Igor Golshtein is a member of the Australian Taxation practice and is based in Melbourne. He has extensive experience in the energy and resources, infrastructure and financial services sectors.

Igor practises in corporate and international taxation, with a particular focus on advising clients on tax issues arising from strategic M&A transactions, business acquisitions and divestments, corporate reconstructions, joint ventures and cross-border debt financing.

He also assists clients navigate risk reviews and audits conducted by revenue authorities and resolve tax disputes via different forms of ADR, as well as advising clients on complex evidence gathering, engagement with independent experts and conduct of litigation.

Igor has been recognised as a 'Rising Star' for Tax in Legal 500 Asia-Pacific.

Advised a major bank on tax issues associated with the divestment of its wealth management business.*

Advised a lender group (comprising Australian and foreign banks) on tax issues associated with the $1.27 billion refinancing of a major motorway in NSW.*

Advised a group of entities owned by a consortium of Australian and foreign institutional investors on a range of tax issues associated with the holding and operation of major Australian economic infrastructure.*

Advised on the establishment of a student accommodation platform by a global investment bank in joint venture with a diversified fund manager.*

Advised the investment arm of a major insurance group on tax issues associated with acquisitions, divestments and developments of commercial real estate.*

Advised several major resources groups with respect to the resolution of transfer pricing disputes with the Australian Taxation Office (including with respect to Advance Pricing Arrangements and Mutual Agreement Procedures).*

Advised major corporate groups from the resources, financial services, manufacturing and software development sectors resolve disputes with Innovation and Science Australia and the Australian Taxation Office with respect to claims for the R&D Tax Incentive.*
