Biography

Overview

Michael Richter is counsel in the Project Development and Finance practice based in the Firm's Tokyo office. Michael's practice focuses on energy project development, construction and financing. He also has significant experience advising clients in relation to the resolution of major international disputes.

Prior to joining the Firm, Michael worked at a leading international law firm in Tokyo where he was involved in a variety of project development and dispute resolution matters and as Legal Counsel at Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada's export credit agency. At EDC, Michael worked on a broad range of international corporate and project finance, regulatory and dispute resolution matters.

He is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association.

Various clients in connection with numerous long-term and spot LNG sale and purchase agreements, including in relation to export projects in the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

Various clients in connection a wide variety of contractual disputes and price reviews under long-term LNG sale and purchase agreements, including in arbitration.

Various clients in relation to EPC Contracts, including for the installation of an LNG fueled cogeneration system and related facilities, the expansion of an LNG export project, and the construction of a solar power plant.

A Japanese company as part of a sponsor consortium in connection with the project development of an offshore wind project in Taiwan.

A client in connection with its acquisition of an interest in a joint venture to construct and operate multiple rail projects in Brazil.

Panasonic Corporation to acquire a leading end-to-end supply chain software provider in the United States.

An export credit agency in the provision of numerous bilateral and syndicated financings for borrowers in Canada, USA, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Russia, Kazakhstan and India across a variety of sectors, including mining, high-tech, aerospace, project finance, automotive and commercial markets.*

An export credit agency in relation to domestic and cross-border dispute resolution matters, including loan defaults, bankruptcies, litigations and arbitrations.
