Román González Melo joined White & Case in 2012. Mr. González's practice has focused on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, banking, regulatory and antitrust matters.
Mr. González has participated in corporate restructuring transactions for financial institutions such as Grupo Intercam and Grupo Invercap. He has also been part of deals providing advice for global firms before Mexican authorities, including advice to Verizon before the former Telecommunications Commission on the acceleration of the transition to the digital terrestrial television program, counsel to Kansas City Southern, S.A. de C.V. on railway license matters before the Communications and Transportation Ministry, and counsel to Hypothekenbank Frankfurt AG before the National Banking and Securities Commission.
He was part of the White & Case team that represented the government of the State of Puebla, as awarding authority, in the US$150 million award of a construction agreement for a platform in which Audi, the German automobile company, would install its first production plant in Latin America.
In 2013, he was part of a secondment to The Bank of New York Mellon, S.A., advising on legal services for internal clients and compliance and litigation matters.
His experience in antitrust matters includes merger notifications for financial institutions and advice on cartel enforcement cases before the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Mexico's antitrust authority).
Before joining White & Case, Mr. González worked for the General Director of Cartel Investigations in Mexico's former Federal Competition Commission, after practicing law in a boutique tax and intellectual property firm in Mexico City.
