White & Case Expands Global Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Team with New London Partner

London, March 3, 2010 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP continues to chart a course for the growth of its Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice with the appointment of Christian Pilkington as a partner in its London office. Pilkington joins a global team of over 150 restructuring specialists and one of the largest and most diverse restructuring practices around the world.

"Adding Christian to our team is a key step in our strategy to continue the build-out of our world-leading restructuring practice," commented Thomas Lauria, partner and global head of the Firm's FRI Practice. "His recognized experience in UK and European-based restructurings fits perfectly into our plans, and we can’t wait for him to get started." Lauria added.

The appointment of Christian Pilkington, who joins the London office from Skadden LLP, will further strengthen the already 12 strong team, which includes partners Stephen Phillips and Mark Glengarry. Christian has worked on a number of high-profile and cross-border restructurings, most recently, British Vita and the current case of Orion Cable. His appointment underscores the Firm's commitment to bolster and grow its London capabilities and to continue the team’s success in winning complex and high profile cross-border restructuring mandates.

"Christian's strong experience in complex restructurings and insolvencies and his deep industry contacts will add to our capabilities, continuing our commitment to deliver high quality execution to our clients," comments Stephen Phillips, partner, White & Case.

"I have worked opposite Christian on a number of high-profile restructurings and now look forward to working alongside him," comments Mark Glengarry, partner, White & Case. "He promises to be a great asset who will help drive our business forward."

The FRI London team, working together with colleagues in other practice groups, have built up an enviable reputation in recent years, dealing with some of the largest and most complex restructuring appointments in Europe. In the last year alone, they have advised on the restructuring of over €50 billion in debt facilities, including such high profile matters as the €900+ million restructuring of Sanitec; the rescue of WIND Hellas, in the largest ever pre-pack administration in UK history; the restructuring of Linpac Group’s £640 million debt facilities, via a court-administered scheme of arrangement, and its ownership transfer; the recent restructuring of a $3 billion of a major Austrian bank; the restructuring of the US$1.7 billion facilities of Kuwaiti investment house, Global Investment House; and the recapitalisation of a significant number of Kazakhstan banks, including BTA and Alliance Bank.

In the last year, the team have won two awards for their outstanding work; 2009 Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards 'Most Innovative Deal' for the restructuring of Global Investment House; and the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards 'Financial Services' category for the recapitalisation of the Kazakhstan banking sector and the restructuring of the debt of BTA Bank and Alliance Bank under a new restructuring law, which we drafted at the request of the Prime Minister.
