White & Case Expands Global Banking Capabilities

New York, March 10, 2010 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP has added to its bank finance and bank regulatory capabilities with the hiring of Francis Zou as a partner in its Global Banking Practice.

"Francis is a first-rate lawyer, with considerable experience serving Chinese banks and corporations and US institutions doing business with Chinese companies both in China and around the world," said Eric Berg, head of White & Case's Global Banking Practice. "He has significant background working with top Chinese commercial banks and corporations that will greatly increase our cross-border opportunities for serving these companies, especially as they ramp up their activities in the US and other key markets, including Asia and Latin America."

Based in New York, Zou joins White & Case from Allen & Overy LLP, where he served as senior counsel in the firm's New York banking group. He specializes in bank finance, asset-based finance, restructurings, and mergers and acquisitions. He also has significant bank regulatory experience representing foreign banks applying to the Federal Reserve and appropriate branch chartering authorities and advising US branches of foreign banks in dealing with federal and state banking regulators.

In addition to his legal experience, Zou served as Chief English Interpreter and Deputy Director of the English Division in China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In that capacity, Zou acted as an interpreter for high-ranking Chinese officials in talks with Western leaders and representatives, including former US Presidents Bush and Clinton and Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.

"Francis adds a significant dimension to our global banking practice and in particular our ability to serve Asian banking clients," said Barrye Wall, head of White & Case’s Asia region. "With Chinese banks and corporations increasingly looking at overseas acquisitions, Francis will help cement the connections between our Asia and Americas bank finance practices and enhance our global platform for serving Chinese clients locally in Asia and elsewhere in the world where they do business."

White & Case ranks among a select group of global law firms able to successfully handle the growing complexities of structuring transactions in today’s global economy. Comprising more than 250 banking lawyers worldwide, its Bank Finance Practice advises on highly complex cross-border financings in all major money centers worldwide.
