White & Case Expands its Global Partnership with Jessup International Moot Court

New York, Ankara, Beijing, Istanbul, Johannesburg, London, Moscow, Prague, Shanghai, Warsaw, Washington, DC, January 28, 2008 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP today announced the expansion of its role as Global Partner of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition through its sponsorship of Jessup teams from developing countries and underwriting of additional national competitions. Administered by the International Law Students Association (ILSA) in nearly 90 countries, Jessup is the world's largest moot court competition, with more than 2,000 law students from almost 600 universities around the world participating annually in the competition.

"The Jessup Competition is an excellent training ground for law students from around the world," said White & Case Chairman Hugh Verrier. "The Jessup not only provides a challenging intellectual experience but also a cultural one that transcends national boundaries. White & Case recognizes the importance of this mission and is proud to be a global partner of the Jessup."

Through its sponsorship of ILSA and as the sole Global Partner of the competition, White & Case provides financial support to Jessup teams to encourage both the education of future lawyers and growth of the competition in developing countries. In 2007, White & Case sponsored Jessup teams from Ethiopia, Guyana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho and Nepal. This year's team sponsorships will be determined by ILSA in March.

In addition to team sponsorships, White & Case has broadened its role as Jessup Global Partner by underwriting five additional national competitions, making a total of nine countries receiving White & Case funding. For 2008, White & Case will sponsor competitions in Australia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom — more than any other Jessup sponsor.

The first of the national competitions sponsored by White & Case kicks off January 29 in Moscow with the 2008 Russian National Competition — now the world's largest national Jessup competition six years after being founded by White & Case — and concludes on March 8 with the Canadian National Competition. On April 11, White & Case will host a reception in Washington, DC, for all Firm-sponsored teams competing in the Jessup World Championships, to be held April 6-12.
