White & Case Expands its China Practice with Two New Partners

October 2, 2008 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP is strengthening its capabilities in China with the hiring of bank finance and real estate partner Karen Tang and tax partner Yongjun Peter Ni. Both will be based in the Firm's Shanghai office, which, together with the Firm's offices in Beijing and Hong Kong, supports the China Practice of White & Case.

Tang has extensive experience advising clients on diverse cross-border financing in China. She represents banks and other financial institutions, private equity funds and multinational companies in real estate financing, including loan originations and secondary purchases and sales of real estate loan assets, as well as acquisition finance, loan syndications and capital markets.
Fluent in English and Mandarin, Tang assists clients in structuring and documenting investments in Chinese real estate assets and companies and joint-venture acquisitions. She also has experience advising clients on forming funds and other vehicles investing in Chinese real estate assets and companies.
Ni joins the Firm as head of its China Tax Practice. Qualified to practice law in both China and the US, Ni has 15 years' experience providing international tax services to Fortune 500 and other multinational companies doing businesses in China and Chinese companies investing overseas.
Ni's practice covers all tax aspects of cross-border investments and transactions, with a focus on market entry and exit tax strategies, investment structuring, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, financing and repatriation, and tax effective supply chain management. He also advises clients on regulatory issues regarding doing business in China. A native of Shanghai, Ni is fluent in English and Mandarin.
