Abu Dhabi,
London,
New York
October 31, 2008 ... Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Qatar Holding LLC ("Qatar Holding"), the principal holding company of the Qatar Investment Authority, in connection with its investment of more than USD 6 billion (CHF 10 billion) in ordinary shares, mandatory convertible securities and perpetual tier 1 capital notes of the Credit Suisse Group AG ("Credit Suisse").
The investment was made in relation to the consent decree Credit Suisse agreed with the Swiss Federal Banking Commission regarding future capital targets and leverage requirements on October 16, 2008. Qatar Holding was the largest of a small group of global investors involved in the capital raising Credit Suisse required to fulfil its requirements under the decree.
"We are of course proud to have been involved in such a significant deal, which provided us with an exciting challenge requiring the mobilization of a large team of lawyers in various offices on very short notice to deal with the structuring, documentation, financing, regulatory and other aspects of the transaction," commented Haywood Blakemore, a Paris-based partner at White & Case.
The White & Case team advising Qatar Holding was led by Blakemore, working closely with an international team which included partners Villiers Terblanche, Philip Broke, William Wynne and Allan Taylor, counsel Zeeshan Ahmedani and associates Ed Hills, Tim Buckland, Brendon Mahood, Adam Curphey Jessica Albrecht, Benoit Lavigne, Tomas Cerdan, Carlos Perez, and Mark Jenkins. Lawyers from White & Case's offices in London, New York, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Brussels assisted on the project.
