After much anticipation and press coverage, Bank Indonesia has issued a new policy on the multiple licensing of commercial banks and the establishment of bank office networks. The policy is set out in a regulation which was published in January 2013 and further details have recently been released by Bank Indonesia in two circular letters. The policy has implications for banks that intend to maintain and expand their operations in Indonesia and abroad.
