Practice Experience
Rafael Llano Oddone practices international arbitration and commercial litigation. Mr. Llano Oddone has served as counsel in several large-scale disputes, principally before the International Chamber of Commerce.

Significant recent experience includes representation of:
  • An Asian company in a Spanish-language ICC arbitration relating to a major oil-related construction project in Latin America.
  • The Republic of Peru in an ICSID arbitration against a US investor involving the electric sector.
  • A US company in an ICC arbitration involving the telecommunications sector.
  • An Asian contractor in an arbitration involving a power plant in the Middle East under the rules of the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association.
  • A European bank in a Spanish and English language ICC arbitration involving the sale of interests in a duty-free business in Argentina.
  • An Argentine construction company in an ICC arbitration arising from the construction of a major oil pipeline in Peru.

In addition, Mr. Llano Oddone has represented a European bank in Enron-related litigation before US federal and state courts.

Mr. Llano Oddone also regularly advises clients on the drafting of dispute resolution clauses in complex international transactions.

Before joining White & Case, Mr. Llano Oddone was National Consultant for the Unit for the Promotion of Democracy of the Organization of American States in Asunción, Paraguay. He also lectured at the Universidad Autónoma de Asunción, served as outside consultant to the Paraguayan electoral authority, and practiced civil and constitutional law.
