Tomasz Chmal is a partner at White & Case W. Daniłowicz, W. Jurcewicz i Wspólnicy – Kancelaria Prawna sp.k.
He focuses on various national and international legal aspects of the energy industry. He advises in energy and coal contracts, disputes, antitrust, competition and regulatory aspects. His work included legal aspects of upstream, transportation and downstream in the oil and gas sector. In addition, he advises in mergers and acquisitions, project financing and restructuring in the energy sector.
Tomasz Chmal advised in number of disputes between power plants and grid companies, grid companies and large energy customers as well as energy companies and regulatory bodies.
He was involved in the privatization of Poland’s largest coal producer, power plants, heat and power plants, and four largest steelworks. He advised on the importing of natural gas, natural gas deposit purchases, and natural gas storage development. He also advised clients on the implementation of Third Party Access (TPA) in Poland as well as on solutions to the stranded costs problem. He advised numerous companies in upstream issues, especially in shale gas projects.
Tomasz Chmal is also an energy expert at the independent Polish think-tank Sobieski Institute and a frequent speaker at conferences and media events.
In the area of "Energy & Natural Resources" he was recommended by Chambers Europe 2011 and Chambers Global 2008. Additionally he was recommended in the area of "Project Finance" by IFLR 1000 2008.
