Biography

Overview

Win Rutherfurd has spent more than 35 years counseling individuals and families on all aspects of estate planning, including charitable giving, tax-motivated transfers of property and the taxation of estates and trusts.

From advice about personal business interests to taking care of multigenerational dispositions of property, Win guides his clients' legal affairs at every stage. This often requires close cooperation with investment advisors, accountants or other financial planners, in order to a positive conclusion.

In additional to his work with individual clients, Win also advises charitable organizations and trusts, handling audit and appellate proceedings with federal and state taxing authorities.

Counting a number of major banks amongst his clients, Win advises fiduciaries on the administration of estates and trusts. He has acted as an advisor to the trust and private clients departments of Deutsche Bank Trust Company, Goldman Sachs Trust Company and the former Bankers Trust Company and Chemical Bank. He is able to help fiduciaries (both individual and corporate) handle complicated situations, successfully resolving contested proceedings involving the administration of complex estates and trusts.

Win is active in a number of charitable organizations; and serves on the Boards of The Fresh Air Fund, The Metropolitan Opera Guild, The Metropolitan Opera and The Buckley School, as well as a number of private foundations. He has served on many bar association committees and has been a frequent lecturer for the New York State Bankers Association.
