For more than 35 years, Mr. Rutherfurd has practiced in the trusts and estates department of White & Case, advising individuals and families in all aspects of estate planning, including charitable giving, tax-motivated transfers of property and the taxation of estates and trusts. He also advises a number of charitable organizations and trusts, and has extensive experience in audit and appellate proceedings with federal and state taxing authorities. His representation of individuals and families often involves counseling clients in connection with closely held business interests as well as multigenerational dispositions of property. Such practice frequently involves close cooperation with investment advisors, accountants or other financial planners.

Mr. Rutherfurd has considerable experience in advising fiduciaries in connection with the administration of estates and trusts. He has acted as an advisor to the trust and private clients departments of a number of financial institutions, including Bankers Trust Company, Chemical Bank and Deutsche Bank. In advising both individual and corporate fiduciaries, he has had extensive involvement in contested proceedings involving the administration of complex estates and trusts.

Mr. Rutherfurd serves as a director of Bessemer Trust Company, Bessemer Trust Company, N.A., and Butler Capital Corporation. In addition, he is active in a number of charitable organizations, serving on the Boards of The Fresh Air Fund and The Metropolitan Opera Guild, as well as a number of private foundations. He has served on many bar association committees and is a regular lecturer for the New York State Bankers Association.
