Erwan Berthelot is a Counsel in the International Trade group. His practice focuses on international trade law, in particular the law of the World Trade Organization, and EU law and regulatory affairs.
Mr. Berthelot has extensive experience in WTO law and dispute settlement as well as EU trade policy, including the EU's trade defense instruments. He has represented European and international clients in various anti-dumping, safeguard and anti-subsidy cases in and outside Europe, including in jurisdictions such as China, India and Turkey. He has also acted on behalf of governments in the context of a number of high-profile WTO disputes before panels and the Appellate Body. Mr. Berthelot also has experience in market access issues affecting trade in goods and services, product regulatory issues and technical barriers to trade, as well as trade in agricultural products and regional free trade agreements.
Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Berthelot practiced international trade law and EU law in Brussels with a large international law firm.
Between 2011 and 2012, he was the General Counsel and Head of the Legal Department of Cosmetics Europe, a major Brussels-based trade federation representing the interests of the European cosmetics and personal care industry. During this time, Mr. Berthelot was in charge of legal support for the association and its members in the areas of regulatory affairs, implementation of cosmetics legislation, international trade issues and competition law.
