Practice Experience
Amanda Cowell is an associate in the Dispute Resolution Group in the London office. She has experience in domestic and international commercial litigation and arbitration, primarily working with corporate and banking clients. Amanda has also worked in the Dispute Resolution Group in the Hong Kong office.

Amanda has dealt with proceedings involving a wide range of legal and procedural issues in the High Court, the Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal. She also has experience with commercial litigation before the British Virgin Islands High Court, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and has been involved in international commercial arbitrations before various institutions.

Recent representative matters include:
  • Representing a Turkish conglomerate in relation to a dispute concerning the ownership of a significant share in one of the largest telephone companies in Turkey and in proceedings before the English Administrative Court, seeking the quashing of the Financial Collateral Arrangements (No. 2) Regulations 2003 on the grounds that they are ultra vires section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972;
  • Undertaking international corporate internal investigations in Central and Eastern Europe and Asia, particularly in relation to the United States' Foreign Corrupt Practices Act;
  • Advising an entity owned by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago, in an ICC arbitration in relation to disputes arising out of the construction and operation of a desalination plant in Trinidad;
  • Representing a major UK bank and a major Asian bank in the defence of proceedings commenced in England by a Hong Kong debtor claiming a declaration of non liability; and
  • Representing a Spanish entity in a CIETAC arbitration relation to disputes arising out of a joint venture agreement.

Other recent matters have included injunction proceedings, providing general advice on jurisdictional and conflict of law issues, as well as issues relating to the enforcement and recognition of judgments in England and abroad.

Amanda is also committed to pro bono work and was listed on the White & Case pro bono awards Honour Roll for 2007.
