Practice Experience
Alexis E. Rovzar is Executive Partner in charge of the Latin America Practice of White & Case, based in the New York office. He served as the founding partner in charge of the Mexico City office from 1995 to 2005.
Mr. Rovzar specializes in international financial transactions as well as corporate and banking law. He has served as advisor to investment bankers, lenders, creditors and investors in connection with debt and equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, project financing, leasing transactions, recapitalizations, co-investments, private equity and joint ventures. Throughout the past 30 years, Mr. Rovzar has been involved in most of the major public and private sector financial transactions and debt restructuring in Mexico.
Mr. Rovzar has also been involved in a variety of international transactions including debt/equity investments (swaps), start-up telecommunications, internet and other projects, sale/acquisition of existing Mexican companies, agro-industrial sourcing projects, project financing for hydro electrical and other infrastructure projects, aircraft and other equipment lease financing.
As an Executive Partner, Mr. Rovzar works with our global network on complex financial deals throughout Latin America. He continues to advise publicly listed and privately held companies in Latin America on corporate governance issues and represents private equity, hedge funds and other investors in the region.
An investment banker from 1988 to 1994, Mr. Rovzar served as a chief executive or member of senior management for several portfolio companies. Currently, he serves on the boards of directors of private and publicly owned companies such as Fomento Económico Mexico (FEMSA); Coca-Cola Femsa (KOF), the largest Coca-Cola bottler in the world outside of the U.S.; Grupo Bimbo, America's largest bakery and Mexico's most admired corporation and Grupo COMEX, the country's largest paint manufacturer and Compañia Occidental Mexicana (COMSA) as well as several other leading private Mexican companies. He is also a member of the advisory boards of Grupo ACIR, Mexico's leading radio conglomerate and serves on the Board of The Bank of Nova Scotia headquartered in Toronto, Canada.
Mr. Rovzar devotes substantial time to philanthropic and pro bono activities in New York, Mexico, and elsewhere, having recently been appointed to the Board of the Council of the Americas/Americas Society in New York. He serves as a board member to the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas and recently joined the Board of Qualitas of Life Foundation in New York as well as Appleseed in Washington, DC. He also serves on the Board of International Overseers of Tufts University and is a former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Center on Philanthropy of Indiana University in Indianapolis, (IUPUI).
Mr. Rovzar is an active board member and President of Procura, A.C. and an active board member of Reintegra, A.C., ProVivah, and Patronato del Instituto Nacional de Pediatría (The National Children's Hospital Institute). He co-chairs the Advisory Board for the National Football League (NFL) in Mexico and serves as a member of the Mexican Mediation Institute (IMM) and Endeavor Mexico, among other professional organizations. These are some of the largest philanthropic organizations in Mexico. He also serves as a member of the International Board of the Museo de Arte Moderna de Sao Paulo in Brazil.
Mr. Rovzar continues to develop his entrepreneurial business activities by being a shareholder of various agro-industrial and tourism businesses.
