Mr. Deaktor specializes in financial and commercial transactions.  He has more than 35 years of broad-based experience acting on behalf of public and private sector clients domestically and internationally in a variety of contexts, including capital markets transactions; acquisitions, dispositions and restructurings; joint ventures; venture capital financings; securitizations; and lending transactions.   He has had significant experience in a number of industries, including telecommunications, software, electronic hardware, health care, mining, banking, insurance, gaming, real estate development, and trade shows, and has also been involved in one or more transactions on behalf of clients engaged in the defense industry, retailing, manufacturing, agriculture, education, and management consulting, among others.

Prior to joining the firm in 1987, Mr. Deaktor taught U.S. securities law for eight years as a full-time member of the law faculty at the University of Florida.

Mr. Deaktor has lectured widely, primarily to legal practitioners, on U.S. securities and corporate law topics.  He is one of the firm’s partners responsible for starting the firm’s offices in Miami and Johannesburg, and more recently, before returning to Miami, he headed up the firm’s U.S. technology corporate practice in the firm’s office in Palo Alto.
