Practice Experience

Doug Peel concentrates on energy, infrastructure and project finance transactions in emerging market countries. He is also one of the core partners of the Firm’s India practice.

Doug was an associate in White & Case’s New York, Istanbul and Jeddah offices from 1988 until 1993. Prior to rejoining White & Case in London in 1996, Doug spent three years in the Office of General Counsel of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He was based in the Firm’s Moscow office from 1998 to 2000, and then in our London office before moving to Singapore.

Doug's experience includes leading or participating in the White & Case teams:

Advising JBIC and the other lenders in connection with the project financing of the US$20 billion Sakhalin II (Phase 2) LNG Project in Russia’s Far East;
Advising the Asian Development Bank on a proposed infrastructure project financing in India.
Advising the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on project financings in the energy, transport infrastructure and industrial sectors in Russia, Central Asia and eastern Europe;
Advising the International Finance Corporation on project financings in India, Egypt, Turkey and Russia;
Advising the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund on power project financings in Cameroon, Tanzania and Uganda;
Advising the international lead arrangers on the NLNG project in Nigeria, with a particular focus on lenders’ risk analysis of the gas supply and LNG sale and purchase agreements;
Advising sponsors, project companies and borrowers in the metals & mining and telecommunications sectors on project and other secured financings in India, Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North Africa;
Advising a Western European sponsor on its motorway project joint ventures in Russia;
Advising The Coca-Cola Company in the expansion and restructuring of a global joint venture with Nestlé S.A.;
Advising the majority shareholder of a bidder in the United Kingdom 3G spectrum auction;
Advising the strategic investor in the restructuring of a telecommunications joint venture between a Baltic state and the strategic investor; and
Advising the South African government in the US$1.2 billion privatisation of Telkom S.A.
