Practice Experience
George Cyriac is admitted to practice in New York and India and is a member of White & Case's Mergers & Acquisitions / Corporate / Private Equity practice group and the India practice group, based in Singapore.

George represents private equity firms, alternative investment funds, sovereign wealth funds, corporate strategic investors, and investment and commercial banks on a variety of cross-border transactions. He also has extensive experience in various jurisdictions in Asia, particularly in India and Indonesia.

George was previously based in White & Case's New York office. He also worked for another major international law firm in New York for over three years and, prior to that, for a major Indian law firm in Mumbai for four years.

Representative clients who George has advised include ADB, AIG, Bakrie & Brothers, Deutsche Bank, GID, IFC, Koch Chemicals, Lehman Brothers, Nestle Waters, Pertamina, RZB, Temasek, Tudor Capital, Tyco and Warburg Pincus.

Representative transactions that George has worked on recently include advising:
  • PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations Tbk., a leading crude palm oil producer in Indonesia, in the acquisition of the oleochemical companies and certain plantations companies of the Domba Mas Group for a consideration of approximately US$238 million. The transaction also involved the restructuring and refinancing of the existing debt of the acquired companies.
  • A leading Indonesian telecoms company in the distressed acquisition of an Indonesian telecoms company.
  • Temasek Holdings (Private) Ltd. in a Series B investment in SecondMarket Holdings, Inc. through the subscription to preferred stock and a secondary acquisition of common stock from an existing shareholder. SecondMarket Holdings, Inc. owns a registered broker dealer in the US with an online platform for trading illiquid assets.
  • Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners in its US$175 million investment in an Indian project company owned by Unitech Limited, a publicly traded Indian company, to redevelop approximately one million square feet of saleable area on 4.7 acres of land for offices, residential property and hotels in the greater Mumbai area.
  • AIG Global Real Estate in an investment in India's real estate sector.
  • Starwood Capital Group in its joint venture with one of India's largest real estate developers to form a country-wide platform for the acquisition, development and operation of hotels in India.
  • Lehman Brothers in connection with its exit from Shivaji Marg Properties Limited and DLF Southern Homes Private Limited, two Indian real estate companies that are affiliates of DLF Limited, India's largest real estate company.
  • Deutsche Bank, as arranger, in a financing into India of up to US$109.7 million for Ackruti City Limited for slum redevelopment. This transaction was named "Deal of the Year 2010" by India Business Law Journal and Asian-Counsel. It was also nominated for "Infrastructure and Real Estate Deal of the Year" by IFLR/Asialaw India Awards 2010.
  • Deutsche Bank, as arranger, in a financing for a special purpose vehicle which is a subsidiary of Kumar Urban Development Limited for FDI compliant slum redevelopment through offshore fixed fully convertible INR denominated debentures of up to INR equivalent to US$80 million and onshore secured fixed convertible debentures and an onshore loan to the operating company with an intercreditor security sharing agreement.
