Practice Experience
James Bucke is an associate in the Firm's Banking & Capital Markets Group and joined the London office of White & Case in April 2007. He has experience in advising banks and other lending institutions in all aspects of real estate financing in the UK, including origination and servicing matters. He also has experience in residential mortgage-backed securitization transactions and in the sale of residential mortgage portfolios. He also has general UK real estate transaction and management experience, having acted for both landlords and tenants during his career. James joined the Firm from another US law firm, having practiced in their London office for four years.
Examples of recent representations include:
- Acting for Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate and Liberty Property Trust in the financing of their joint venture acquisition of Blythe Valley Park, Solihull, UK, from The British Land Company PLC;
- Acting for Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate in the financing of its £60 million acquisition of The Old George Mall Shopping Centre, Salisbury;
- Acting for a UK originator of residential mortgages in connection with a £600 million note issuance facility and related loan sales;
- Acting for a leading UK originator of residential mortgages in relation to a maximum £350 million future flow mortgage sale agreement with a leading investment bank; and
- Acting for a major investment bank in the amendment and restatement of a $US 315,000,000 facility agreement and related sub-participation.
James has recently spent nine months on secondment to a leading international bank working in both the corporate banking legal team and the real estate finance business team.

Real Estate Finance
- Acting for a major investment bank in the origination of a £70 million loan facility for the acquisition of a Leeds shopping centre;
- Representing the same investment bank in the origination of a £108 million facility for the refinancing of existing indebtedness secured against a London Docklands office site; and
- Acting for a major investment bank in the origination of a £18 million loan facility involving the acquisition of West End (London) office premises.
