Practice Experience
Ms. Joanna Kalisz focuses on structured finance (securitization), banking law, as well as finance and reorganization.

She has advised clients from the financial and banking sector on NPL and securitization projects involving the establishment of non-standardized securitization funds and has participated in numerous domestic and cross border finance transactions, including project finance and acquisition finance transactions.

She has advised the European Investment Bank and the Nordic Investment Bank on the €640 million financing for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the A1 motorway in Poland (Rusocin-Nowe Marzy section).

Before joining White & Case in April 2005, Joanna Kalisz was an associate at the Warsaw office of a renowned US law firm, where she was involved in several high profile financing deals.

She advised Eastbridge N.V. in the € 74 million mortgage-backed securitization of a rent portfolio involving the issuance of eurobonds by a special purpose vehicle, Polish Retail Properties Finance plc. This highly structured pioneering transaction was not only the first commercial mortgage-backed transaction executed in Poland but also the first Euromarket term securitization in Poland.

She was also involved in the negotiation of a €1.6 billion EPC contract for the construction of a 833 MW lignite fired power unit and advised a private health service provider and its shareholders in the first mezzanine financing in the health care sector in Poland.

Joanna Kalisz graduated summa cum laude from the Warsaw University School of Law. She also graduated from the Department of Journalism and Political Science, Institute of International Relations at the same university. She completed a course in American law organized by Warsaw University in cooperation with the University of Florida. She was an OSI scholar at Rutgers University in the USA and a Stefan Batory Foundation scholar at Oxford University.
