Practice Experience
Jan Matějček has wide-ranging transactional experience with particular concentration in international financing transactions in the infrastructure, municipal and energy sectors as well as significant experience in procurement and investment transactions (including greenfield projects as well as acquisitions and joint ventures).

Mr. Matějček advised a number of leading foreign direct investors in the Czech Republic on all phases of their projects, including investment incentives, land acquisition, construction contracts and legal issues relating to commencing operations in both countries.

Mr. Matějček also played a key role in some of the largest acquisitions and joint ventures completed in the Czech Republic. Most recently, he represented Eastman Chemicals in the acquisition of Chemické závody Sokolov, a.s., the largest chemical producer in the Czech Republic, from the National Property Fund and other shareholders.

Mr. Matějček has also been involved in many financing transactions on the capital and commercial banking markets. He advised leading Slovak and Czech companies such as, CEZ, a.s., the Czech electrical utility, and Ceskoslovenská obchodní banka, a.s. on their bond issues on the domestic markets. He also advised international banks and multilateral lending institutions and export guarantee agencies on borrowing and lending transactions. Most recently, he advised CIBC Wood Gundy PLC and Ceskoslovenská obchodní banka, a.s. on their US$330 million lease financing of the purchase of up to ten 737 Boeing aircraft, guaranteed by the Export and Import Bank of the United States, and on the US$500 million government guaranteed financing of AERO Vodochody, a.s., a joint venture in which Boeing has a significant minority interest.

Mr. Matějček is a member of the Firm’s Partnership Committee. Prior to joining White & Case, Mr. Matějček was in private practice in Prague and Toronto.
