Practice Experience
Jeannine Sano's practice focuses on patent litigation in courts across the country as well as before the United States International Trade Commission, involving technologies such as microprocessors, chipsets, memory, image sensors, displays, and software.
Her trial experience includes serving as first chair in the Middle District of Florida and serving as second chair in the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of Illinois, and in the ITC. She was also part of a trial team that obtained a jury verdict of infringement and invalidity as to every claim at issue and a damages award of over US$130 million in the Northern District of California. She has presented oral argument before the California Court of Appeal and prevailed on an issue of first impression on the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, in addition to obtaining an award of attorneys' fees.
Ms. Sano has been recognized as a leading lawyer by noted publications including Chambers USA in the field of Intellectual Property/Patent. In 2007, she was profiled among the "Top 75 Women Litigators," by The Daily Journal and ranked as one of the "Best Lawyers in Intellectual Property Litigation," by Bay Area Lawyer Magazine. In 2006 she was selected by Lawdragon to be among the "3000 Leading Lawyers in America," and "500 New Stars, New Worlds," and in 2003 a "Prominent Alumni of the University of California Hastings College of the Law," by the Daily Journal, "125 Years of California Law."
Ms. Sano has previously served as the Chair of the Patent Litigation Committee and the ITC Committee for the ABA IP Law Section and has been selected to serve as an Early Neutral Evaluator for the Northern District of California. She has also been a guest instructor for Notre Dame Law School's trial advocacy program and a judge for the mock trial and patent law programs at Stanford Law School.

- Richtek Technology Corp. v. Powerchip Technology Corp. et al. Represent Powerchip in patent litigation involving power management integrated circuits.
- MOSAID Technologies Inc. v. Micron Technology, Inc. et al. Represented MOSAID in patent litigation involving memory technology.
- Alberta Telecommunications Research Centre v. Rambus Inc. Represented Rambus in patent litigation involving clock synchronization technology.
- Matsushita Kotobuki Electronics v. Maxtor et al. Represented Matsushita (Panasonic) in patent and trade secret litigation involving disk drive manufacturing technology
- In the Matter of Certain CMOS Active Pixel Image Sensors and Products Containing Same. Represented OmniVision in Section 337 investigation and corresponding district court litigation involving patent infringement claims related to CMOS image sensor technology.
- VMWare, Inc. v. Connectix Corp. et al. Represented Connectix and Microsoft in patent litigation and associated Federal Circuit appeal involving virtual machine operating system technology.
- VIA Technologies, Inc. et al. v. Intel Corp. Represented Intel in multi-patent, multi-jurisdiction litigation involving microprocessor and chipset technology, in foreign jurisdictions including the UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan and PRC.
- Microtune v. Broadcom Corp. Represented Broadcom in patent litigation involving RF tuner technology.
- Glue-Fold, Inc. v. Slautterback Corp. et al. Represented Nordson and Slautterback in trade secret and related claims involving adhesive manufacturing technology. Obtained summary judgment as to all claims, affirmed on appeal; attorneys' fees awarded.
- Mobile Internet Technologies v. E-LOAN et al. Represented E-LOAN in litigation involving trade secret and patent claims related to on-line auto sales and financing. Prevailed in bench trial to defeat request for preliminary injunction; plaintiff's appeal dismissed.
- AudioDigitalImaging v. Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. et al. Represented Samsung in litigation involving trade secret and copyright claims related to MPEG2 technology.
