Practice Experience
Kemal Suffee is an associate in the firm's Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance Group in London.
He also spent one year on secondment at Mizuho Corporate Bank, in Tokyo, where he worked as a commercial banker in the Power and Infrastructure team.
Representative transactions include:
- advising Nord Stream AG in connection with the financing of the US$ 7 billion, 1,200 km, gas pipelines through the Baltic Sea (including financing from commercial banks, Euler Hermes, UFK and SACE) ("2009 European Gas Deal of the Year" by Project Finance Magazine; "2010 European Oil & Gas Midstream Deal of the Year" by Project Finance Magazine; and "2011 Infrastructure/Energy Team of the Year" at The Lawyer Awards);
- advising the lender on a corporate loan to a Russian media company for the development of, and investment in, television programmes;
- advising Ahli United Bank B.S.C., Arab Banking Corporation (B.S.C.), African Development Bank and other lenders in connection with the provision of a US$ 480 million facility for the development of a new container terminal, set to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East, within the Port of Damietta, Egypt;
- advising the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on its trade facilitation programme;
- advising BNP Paribas, as intercreditor agent for the lenders, in connection with the provision of financing for the development and operation of a Chlor-Alkali plant in Egypt;
- advising the lender in connection with the provision of financing for the construction of a petrochemical plant in North Africa;
- advising Mizuho Corporate Bank in relation to the TEPCO/Marubeni acquisition of Mirant's power assets in the Philippines. Also, worked with JBIC to provide the US$ 2.7 billion take-out financing, including provision of the JBIC political risk guarantee to the commercial lenders;
- advising the Facility Agent, Cheyne Capital Management Limited, and the Mezzanine Lender, Cheyne Structured Solutions Fund L.P., in connection with the signing of a €45 million structured mezzanine financing for Hawk Finance (Jersey) Limited; and
- advising CIBC, Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley in connection with the provision of €1.005 billion of senior debt, €70 million second-lien and €200 million mezzanine financing to CVC Capital Partners for the acquisition of Ruhrgas Industries GmbH, the metering and furnacing division of E.ON Ruhrgas AG.
