Practice Experience
Mr. Castleman has extensive experience in all aspects of counseling individuals and families in developing tax-advantaged transfers of assets; in advising executors, trustees and professional fiduciaries in connection with the management of estates and trusts; and in the administrative aspects of estates, including will contests, tax audits, and construction proceedings.

Mr. Castleman has more than 30 years experience in the field. He is frequently called upon in situations where sophisticated and sensitive planning is necessitated by multi-generational family considerations and the financing and succession issues relevant in family-owned businesses. He works closely with clients’ professional advisors ¾ trust officers, investment advisors, accountants, insurance planners ¾ to develop and implement plans for managing and transferring assets. On an ongoing basis, he also advises clients in connection with personal tax planning, tax-driven investment offerings, and retirement planning.

The requirements and performance standards of fiduciaries are increasingly stringent. Mr. Castleman advises executors and trustees on a wide range of potentially contentious areas and is an advisor to the trust and private clients divisions of a number of leading banking and trust organizations.

Mr. Castleman also advises clients on matrimonial issues and structures all forms of marital agreements and waivers in connection with overall estate plans, prenuptial planning or matrimonial disputes. He collaborates with members of the firm’s Litigation Department in resolving contested matrimonial matters and provides advice on the tax aspects of property settlements.

Mr. Castleman is also a member of the Florida Bar and assists the firm’s New York and Miami offices in the representation of clients resident in Florida. He is a Certified Financial Planner and has concentrated for the past several years in retirement planning. He has served on many bar association committees, and recently led a City Bar program on Estate Planning Strategies for Distributions from Qualified Plan and IRA Benefits.
