Practice Experience
Matthew is a senior associate based in Abu Dhabi. He has a wide range of experience in corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures and reorganisations and has worked with a number of leading multi-national businesses in relation to domestic and international M&A matters and joint ventures.
Prior to joining White & Case Matthew worked at a leading UK Law firm.
Representative transactions include advising:
- Qatar Real Estate Investment Company ("Alaqaria") in connection with Barwa Real Estate Company's recent tender offer to acquire all of the shares of Alaqaria in exchange for shares in Barwa. The transaction, the first of its kind in Qatar, was valued at approximately US$3 billion;
- a publicly traded Saudi corporation in connection with its acquisition of a major chain of hypermarket stores in Saudi Arabia;
- Saudi Aramco on its $550 million disposal of its 40% stake in Petron Corporation, the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines, to an investment fund of Ashmore Group;
- Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. on its $1.3 billion acquisition of U.N Ro-Ro Isletmeleri A.S., a Turkish freight company. The transaction is the largest ever private equity acquisition of a Turkish business;
- Allianz Capital Partners GmbH in its acquisition of the European vending business, Selecta, from Compass Group PLC for a consideration of £772.5 million;
- O2 plc on its recommended £17.7 billion takeover by Telefonica plc;
- Pearl Group Limited on the transfer of its general insurance business to Lloyds TSB Insurance Limited a subsidiary of Lloyds TSB Group plc;
- Deutsche Bank on the purchase of the Depository and Clearing Centre business from JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A;
- Close Brothers on the purchase of Reabourne Technology Investment Management Limited by Close Asset Management Holdings Limited;
- Close Brothers on the purchase of Seydler AG by Close Securities (Germany) Limited;
- Zurich Assurance Plc on establishing the Openwork Equity Participation Scheme (an FSA approved multi-tie distribution network for insurance and other financial products); and
- Rolls Royce on general corporate matters.
