Manuel Groenewold joined White & Case in 2005. His main areas of experience are: corporate; mergers and acquisitions; banking, securities and financial institutions; public debt; bankruptcy/insolvency and corporate reorganization; and privatization and asset sale procedures. Before joining White & Case, Mr. Groenewold held his own private practice.

Until July 2001, Mr. Groenewold served as General Legal Director of Deposit Insurance at the Instituto para la Protección al Ahorro Bancario, Mexico's deposit insurance entity (IPAB). At IPAB he participated, among others:  in the design of the new deposit insurance system; in the implementation and conclusion of financial support programs (Banca Promex and Grupo Financiero Inverlat); in IPAB's debt restructuring; in the drafting and negotiation of credit agreements; and the sale of financial entities (Grupo Financiero Serfín, BanCrecer and ABA Seguros).

From 1995 to 1998, Mr. Groenewold worked at the Mexican Ministry of Finance. First at the General Direction of Public Credit, participating primarily in the drafting and negotiation of public external debt agreements, particularly the issuance of bonds by the Federal Government and public sector entities in foreign capital markets. Then, since 1997, at the General Direction of Banks and Savings, he participated in the implementation of the new pension funds system, and was actively involved in the design of its regulatory framework. From 1994 to 1995, Mr. Groenewold worked at the Mexican Banking and Securities Commission, where he primarily participated in the revision of the requests filed by NAFTA-based financial institutions to obtain authorization to establish their Mexican subsidiaries.
