Practice Experience
Nele Govaert advises clients on both Belgian and European law issues.
Her practice focuses mainly on corporate and financing transactions.
Her corporate practice covers mergers and acquisitions, with a particular focus on private equity transactions, capital markets, and general Belgian corporate law advice (for example in relation to director's liability and liquidation of companies) and corporate housekeeping.
Her finance practice includes advising both financing parties and obligors in connection to leveraged finance transactions (with a particular focus on acquisition finance) and project finance transactions in the energy sector.
She has been involved in several major deals, advising clients in each transaction phase. She handled the acquisition and subsequent merger of Quadreon by Avanade, a joint venture between Microsoft and Accenture. She regularly assists private equity fund Gimv, one of the Brussels office's key clients. She was also part of the White & Case team advising the European Investment Bank on its investments in offshore wind farms in Belgium.
She has also advised companies on EC competition law and general EU law aspects. She has advised various multinational and Belgian clients in cases concerning alleged cartel abuses and compliance with EC rules against abuse of dominance. She has been involved in the merger control analysis of various deals (where she also handled the transactional aspects) and on the case teams of a merger control notification to the Belgian competition authority and to the European Commission.
Nele joined White & Case in September 2007.
In the first half of 2010, she was seconded to Panasonic, one of the core clients of the Firm worldwide. As part of the European legal team, she advised on corporate, commercial as well as European competition law aspects, in particular (selective) distribution contracts. During her secondment, she managed the acquisition by Panasonic of its exclusive distributor in the Netherlands.
