Overview

Craig focuses on project finance and bank finance, advising domestic and international banks in South Africa on their funding structures. He has been practicing for more than ten years and is a recognised leader in his field.

Craig counsels clients on a broad array of financing options, including unsecured and secured lending, project finance, acquisition finance, property and development finance, commodities finance, preference share funding and security structuring.

Drawing on his track record, working on complex, large-scale projects, Craig brings extensive experience and deep knowledge to his clients. He is also adept at drafting and negotiating on behalf of lenders and borrowers (both under LMA and otherwise) across a wide range of cross-border financing transactions.

Prior to joining White & Case, Craig was a partner at a leading South African law firm.

Nedbank Capital, Absa Capital and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited, 2012 – 2013

Craig advised Nedbank Capital, a division of Nedbank Limited and Absa Capital, a division of Absa Bank Limited and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited, on the provision of an ECA-backed project financing facility to Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Proprietary Limited, relating to the construction, development, operation and maintenance of the 100MW Dorper Wind Farm under the South African Department of Energy's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme. This deal was named "African Wind Deal of the Year" at Euromoney magazine's Project Finance Awards.

The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, The Industrial Development Corporation and Nedbank Capital, 2012

He advised The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited, The Industrial Development Corporation and Nedbank Capital, a division of Nedbank Limited, on the provision of a project financing facility to Red Cap Kouga Wind Farm, in respect of the construction, development, operation and maintenance of the 80MW Red Cap Kouga Wind Farm, under the DoE's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme.

Amakhala Emoyeni, Cennergi (Pty) Ltd, Tata Power, Exxaro Resources Ltd, 2013

Craig advised Amakhala Emoyeni RE Project 1 (Pty) Ltd. (as borrower) and Cennergi (Pty) Ltd., Tata Power and Exxaro Resources Ltd. (as sponsors) in respect of the project financing of the Amakhala Wind Farm (140MW) in the Eastern Cape, under the DoE's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme.

Mall of the South, South Africa, 2013

He represented Rand Merchant Bank in the funding of the construction and development of the Mall of the South Shopping Centre. When complete, this will be one of the largest shopping centres in Southern Africa.

Concentrated solar power, South Africa, 2013

He advised a global investment fund on two concentrated solar power projects that reached financial close under the DoE's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme.

Loan agreement for multinational cement producer, 2012

Craig advised the lender on the drafting and finalisation of a ZAR 900 million revolving loan facility agreement, for a multinational cement producer's general corporate purposes.

Rand Merchant Bank, 2013

He advised the lender on the financing of the planning, design, technical documentation, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and defect correction of the platforming and civil and electrical infrastructure, works and landscaping required by the relevant municipalities, to enable various properties to receive the relevant municipal service connections.

Standard Chartered Bank: Soft Commodities, 2012

Craig represented the lender in connection with the ZAR 500 million multicurrency (ZAR, USD and Euro) intermediary financing facility provided to a multi-national fruit producer.

Multi-currency Absa Bank Limited, 2012

He advised on the funding in part of the purchase consideration required by a multinational petroleum company for the acquisition of a foreign oil and gas company.

Craig advised on the provision of development funding to Lexshell 44 (Pty) Ltd., the owner of the V&A Waterfront, for the establishment of the new head office accommodation for Alan Gray.
