Sona Ganatra is an associate in the Dispute Resolution group in London. Working primarily with large corporate and banking clients, she has experience of commercial litigation, regulatory investigations and international arbitration. Sona has advised on a broad spectrum of matters including regulatory investigations and disciplinary actions, insolvency, shareholders’ disputes, contractual disputes, judicial review actions and complex jurisdictional issues.
Examples of recent representations include:
Advising an institutional shareholder in high profile judicial review proceedings against HM Treasury;
Acting for the Claimant in LCIA arbitration proceedings in relation to a contractual dispute concerning the manufacture and supply of telecoms equipment;
Acting for the Defendant in a Commercial Court action and parallel proceedings in Europe arising out of a major shipping incident. This multi-party action involves complex jurisdictional and conflict of law issues;
Acting for a large international banking institution in US civil court proceedings arising from the Enron litigation;
Assisting in internal investigations into suspected breaches of EU and US Antitrust legislation in the oil and gas industry; and
Advising an “Approved Person” about the impact of foreign regulatory proceedings on his regulated status in England.
In 2004, Sona was seconded to the Enforcement Division of the Financial Services Authority. This invaluable secondment provided Sona with “inside” experience of regulatory investigations and disciplinary actions. As well as providing advice on breaches of the UK financial services regulatory regime, Sona also appeared before the Regulatory Decisions Committee and participated in settlement discussions with financial institutions.
