Practice Experience
Sylvia T. Tonova is an associate at White & Case LLP and practices with the International Arbitration and Litigation Groups. She has experience in representing sovereigns, intergovernmental institutions and companies in international arbitration and litigation matters.
Ms. Tonova's recent experience includes:
Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in an arbitration of a dispute arising under the Energy Charter Treaty and involving an oil refinery;
Representation of Romania in an ICSID arbitration of a dispute arising under a bilateral investment treaty concerning duty free services at Romanian airports;
Representation of Romania in an ICSID arbitration of a dispute arising under a bilateral investment treaty relating to the privatization of an ammonia production company; and
Representation of a company before the International Arbitral Centre of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and US District Court for the District of Columbia in a dispute relating to investment in a joint venture in Uzbekistan.
Prior to joining White & Case, Ms. Tonova worked at two international law firms in New York City and at a major law firm in Sofia, Bulgaria. She has also had experience at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva, Switzerland.
