Practice Experience
Mr. Corta, an authority on the law and regulation of financial entities, concentrates on the regulatory and transactional aspects of banking, project finance, securities and insolvency matters, but also has experience in general corporate, civil and mercantile matters, having handled successfully some high-profile shareholder disputes in Mexico.

Mr. Corta served as President of the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System, where he led a comprehensive reform of the pension system's legal framework, opening the funds to investments in international assets and a major overhaul of investment rules. Prior to that, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Protection of Bank Savings ("IPAB"), Mexico's deposit insurance and bank resolution agency. There, he coordinated the restructuring and sale of Mexico's third largest bank (Serfin) conducting the orderly resolution of the assets acquired by the Mexican Government as a result of the financial crisis and setting the rules for the new bank deposit insurance implemented after the bank crisis. He also held several positions at the Ministry of Finance, where he was responsible for the legal aspects of the US emergency package to Mexico during the 1995 debt crisis, the restructuring of toll roads, and the design of the "pidiregas" infrastructure projects, among other relevant activities.

Clients include KCSM, Goldman Sachs, Banorte, Walmart Bank, Consultoría Internacional, ICA, AVON, World Bank, Coppel, Credit Agricole, BNP, HSBC, Santander, BBVA, Scotiabank. High- profile insolvency cases include Comerci, Metrofinanciera, Credito y Casa, Su Casita, Vértice and Oceanografía.

Mr. Corta has also served as a member or director on the boards of directors of numerous Mexican public sector entities involved in the financial service industry in Mexico, such as the National Banking and Securities Commission, the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System, the National Insurance and Bonding Commission, the Mexican Postal Service, Council for National Savings, CINTRA, Aeromexico and Mexicana, the National Institute of the Workers' Housing Fund, IXE Financial Group and ICA, among others. Mr. Corta has advised the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund on international financial matters.

He is member and former President of the UNICEF's Consultant Board in Mexico and member of CIDE's Law School Consultant Board. He is a member of the Board of CINIF, Mexico's national accounting standard setter.

The World Economic Forum included Mr. Corta as Young Global Leader 2006, a distinction only two other Mexicans received that year.

Mr. Corta is a frequent lecturer on financial topics. He has spoken at conferences and meetings of the Mexican Institute of Finance Executives, Economic Investigation and Instruction Center, Mexican Association of Securities Brokers, Mexican Bankers Association (ABM), Mexican Association of Retirement Fund Administrators (AMAFORE), Commission of the Chamber of Representatives and Senators, BOVESPA (Brazil), Bank for International Settlements, Council of the Americas, The World Bank and the OCDE, among others.
