Maria Fernanda Méndez Ramírez

Fernanda Méndez is a Senior Associate in White & Case's Mexico City office, where her practice focuses on technology law, intellectual property, data protection, privacy, and strategic litigation. She advises leading global technology companies — across digital marketplaces, social media platforms, streaming services, and on-demand platforms — on the full spectrum of legal matters that arise from operating and scaling digital businesses in Mexico and Latin America. Fernanda also brings a distinctive in-house perspective, having completed an extensive secondment embedded within the legal department of one of the world's leading technology companies, giving her a deep understanding of the business priorities and risk appetite that define the work of in-house legal teams.

Her transactional work spans the negotiation and structuring of commercial agreements — including settlement agreements, vendor contracts, platform terms and conditions, NDAs, and MSAs — as well as legal support for the launch of new products, features, and innovative business models. She translates complex regulatory frameworks into practical, actionable guidance for business and product teams, bridging the gap between legal requirements and real-world operations.

In intellectual property and data protection, Fernanda has over a decade of experience advising technology clients on trademark enforcement, copyright, and digital content rights, managing complex strategic litigation before IMPI and the federal courts. She is equally well-versed in privacy compliance under Mexico's LFPDPPP and the GDPR, regularly advising clients on regulatory documentation, authority inquiries, and proceedings before Data Protection Agency, PROFECO, COFEPRIS, among others.

Fernanda's regulatory advocacy work further distinguishes her practice. She has engaged directly with senior government officials during the drafting of proposed e-commerce regulations, successfully securing the removal of provisions with significant operational impact for digital marketplace operators, and has led the negotiation and execution of Memoranda of Understanding with government authorities. She is an active member of AMPPI and the IAPP.

Fernanda holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
