Antitrust enforcers are drowning in mergers

In Politico's Morning Tech newsletter, Rebecca Kern and Leah Nylen use data from White & Case’s "Shining a Light on the Massive Global Surge in Merger Control Filings" survey  to analyze how the surge in US merger control filings in 2021 has stretched resources at the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice thin. 

The article notes: "In 2021, companies reported 4,130 mergers to the two agencies—more than double the number from the previous year, according to an analysis by the law firm White & Case. In December alone, businesses reported 285 mergers, dwarfing any previous December figure since 2011."
