White & Case partner Simon Stuttaford was featured in Reuters discussing how proposed reforms to the UK's nuclear regulatory regime and closer UK-US regulatory cooperation could support the deployment of US-developed small modular reactors (SMRs) in Great Britain.

Commenting on Cottam, a former coal-fired power station in Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands, where Holtec International plans to deploy up to four SMR-300s providing around 1.3 GW of generating capacity, Stuttaford said the project could provide "a test case" of how effectively the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) can work together to improve regulatory timescales and efficiency. He added: "A lot of this will turn on the willingness of the ONR to accept or otherwise regulatory information from the US."
