Skadden, White & Case, Latham see mining work surge as US–China rare earths race heats up

White & Case Houston partner Jamie Franklin was recently quoted in Law.com, discussing the increase in deal activity around rare earth minerals. With China controlling more than 60% of global rare earth production, the United States and other countries are looking elsewhere, fuelling the notable uptick in M&A activity.
Jamie said that: "It is a good time to be working in the mining and metals space right now…our goal is to ensure we can deploy truly credible industry expertise and specialist support in whichever jurisdiction and in whatever time zone our clients need it." Despite challenges, the industry expects long-term momentum and continued deal-making.
