Bianca McDonnell is an associate in the Firm's International Arbitration practice in Madrid.
Licensed in Australia and eligible for admission in New York, Bianca focuses her practice on investment and complex commercial arbitration proceedings, primarily under the ICSID Convention, UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules or the ICC Rules. She is currently advising a sovereign State in relation to an annulment proceeding and an investor in a dispute arising under the Energy Charter Treaty.
Prior to joining White & Case Bianca worked for a leading international arbitrator where she acted as assistant and secretary to the tribunal in arbitrations involving states or state-owned entities.
Bianca acts as a voluntary Expert Advisor for the US Government's Department of Commerce's Commercial Law Development Program, where she teaches law students from developing countries in the Middle East and Asia about international arbitration and oral advocacy for the Willem C. Vis Moot; she also acts as the principal Advisor for the program in Afghanistan. She co-founded MAD VYAP – Madrid Very Young Arbitration Practitioners.
An ICSID arbitration brought by ten European investors against Romania under the Energy Charter Treaty;
A multi-billion dollar ICC claim brought by a Latin-American state owned entity against a major US construction company concerning the construction of an oil refinery in Colombia;
An ICSID arbitration against Greece brought by a Cypriot Bank for losses incurred in the Greek financial crisis;
An ICSID arbitration against Belgium brought by a UAE state-owned entity concerning a concession in the Port of Antwerp and an ICSID arbitration against the UAE brought by a UK investor arising from a failed real estate development;
An ICC proceeding brought by an Argentinian company against a Venezuelan State-owned oil company;
An ICSID revision proceeding brought by Hungary against a French investor.
