Biography

Blair Trahan is a trial lawyer with significant experience handling complex international and commercial disputes. She represents a wide range of clients in high-stakes litigation before federal and state courts, as well as leading arbitral tribunals.

Blair has extensive experience advising and representing foreign sovereigns, their agencies and instrumentalities, financial institutions, and multinational corporations in matters arising under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, Anti-Terrorism Act, Federal Arbitration Act, and the False Claims Act, as well as discovery in aid of foreign proceedings under 28 U.S.C. § 1782.

Blair also has represented professional sports organizations, team owners, and media conglomerates in high-stakes commercial litigation in federal and state court, as well as in arbitrations before JAMS and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Blair regularly counsels clients on legal and business issues shaping the sports, gaming, and entertainment industries, and is an active member of the Sports Lawyers Association.

While at Tulane Law School, Blair clerked for the US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She also earned a specialty certificate in International and Comparative Law from Tulane Law School.

Experience

Representing the Republic of India and its political subdivisions in commercial dispute in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Successfully secured vacatur of a multi-million default judgment rendered against foreign sovereign in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Successfully resisted vacatur and secured judgment confirming two arbitral awards for a multinational corporation against the Municipality of Lima, Peru in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Successfully resisted discovery under 28 U.S.C. § 1782 sought by the Municipality of Peru from multinational corporations in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Successfully secured favorable settlement on the eve of trial on behalf of a Department of State defense contractor resulting from qui tam False Claims Act litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.

Successfully obtained vacatur of various judgments and writs of attachment on property of agency or instrumentality of foreign sovereign under the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act and matters relating to the Crystallex enforcement proceedings in various federal district and appellate courts.

Successfully obtained discovery for multinational companies in various applications for discovery in aid of foreign and international proceedings.

Successfully defended major sports organization in dispute with an athlete before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
