Cristiana Gonçalves Correia
Biography
Cristiana Gonçalves Correia is an associate in the International Arbitration group of White & Case LLP, based in the Paris office.
Cristiana joined White & Case in 2019. She specializes on complex cross-border commercial arbitration, spanning a range of sectors and laws (including Portuguese, Angolan, Brazilian, Mozambican, Guinean-Bissau and English law), primarily conducted under the ICC rules. She has experience in disputes in Africa and Latin America, with a particular focus on Lusophone markets. In 2022, Cristiana was recognized by IFLR 1000 as a "Rising Star" in international arbitration. In addition to her arbitration expertise, Cristiana has experience with other forms of dispute resolution, such as mediation.
Prior to joining White & Case, Cristiana worked for six years in the disputes department of Morais Leitão, a leading law firm in Lisbon, where she gained extensive experience as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations, and as secretary and assistant to arbitral tribunals. Cristiana acted as secretary to an ICC arbitral tribunal seated in Barcelona, Spain.
From 2016 to 2019, Cristiana was a Teaching Assistant at Católica Law School.

Cristiana's recent experience includes:
Representing a Turkish supplier of power solutions against a West African State and its national power company, in a CCJA arbitration arising out of a contract for the long-term supply of power solutions.
Representing a State in a Paris-seated ICC arbitration in relation to the termination of a contract for the construction of a hydroelectric power plant.
Representing an African state in ICC and Swiss Chambers arbitrations involving claims for US$800 million in a matter arising from an international fraud, bribery, and corruption scandal.
Representing PT Ventures in proceedings connected to its successful ICC arbitration against the other shareholders of Unitel S.A., the Angolan telecommunications company. The Award of February 2019 directed the respondents to pay PT Ventures over US$750 million in compensation and interest, and was subsequently successfully enforced in the BVI courts with an additional victory before the Paris Court of Appeals in January 2021.
Representing a Brazilian pulp company in a shareholder dispute over its acquisition that gave rise to multiple arbitration and court proceedings.
