Biography

Overview

Elizabeth Black is the Director of Global Citizenship, responsible for carrying out the Firm's role—as a business and as individuals—as active participants in the global community. She leads the Firm's extensive Global Citizenship activities, including legal education, pro bono, volunteering, charitable giving and responsible business. She has been instrumental in expanding the Firm's activities in these areas, including helping the Kingdom of Bhutan establish its first law school, developing ethics training programs in Africa and creating the African Centre on Law & Ethics, and expanding the Firm's support of moot courts, such as the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Jessup Competition) and the Willem Vis Commercial Arbitration Moot, as well as urban debate leagues throughout the US. She also led the creation of the Firm's inaugural volunteering and charitable giving campaign, entitled "Elevate: Investing in the next generation" and responsible business practices, such as our involvement with the UN Global Compact and internal sustainable operations, including our Environmental Sustainability Report and Environmental Management System.

Elizabeth's professional experience covers an extensive career building and driving international legal and corporate social responsibility programs, including work for nonprofits, the private sector and the government. Her career includes legal education program development, corporate philanthropy and policy analysis. A skilled motivator, she brings together diverse teams while working across jurisdictions.

Prior to joining White & Case, she served as Director of Development for the International Law Institute. She also acted as Executive Director of the International Law Student's Association and was responsible for organizing the Jessup  Competition,  the oldest and largest international moot competition in the world. Previously, she was the Staff Director of the Education Committee for the Florida House of Representatives.
