Biography
Ignacio is an International Law Clerk in the Project Development and Finance Group in White & Case's New York office. He is qualified to practice law in Spain. His practice focuses on the construction, development, financing, and acquisition of energy and infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on renewable energy (spanning battery energy storage systems, wind, and solar) and energy transition in the United States and Latin America.
Prior to joining the Project Development and Finance Group, Ignacio began his career in the International Arbitration department of the firm's Madrid office, where he worked as an Associate on both commercial and investment arbitration proceedings. His arbitration caseload was focused on large-scale energy and infrastructure disputes under the ICC, ICSID, and UNCITRAL rules, providing him with a strong technical understanding of project agreements, construction contracts, and energy regulatory frameworks that directly informs his current transactional practice.
Experience
Projects – Energy / Infrastructure
- Representation of Avantus on its development and US$300 million+ financing of the 130 MW / 400 MWh Kitt solar and battery energy storage project in Arizona, including assisting on the preparation and negotiation of key construction contracts.
- Representation of Glenfarne on a US$1.04 billion financing, a substantial portion of which financed Glenfarne's acquisition of four energy projects in Chile from METLEN Energy & Metals, including assisting in the negotiation of certain construction, operation and supply contracts for the acquired projects.
- Representation of Atlas Renewable Energy on the development and US$289 million financing of the 200 MW BESS del Desierto project in Chile. This was awarded “Latin America Energy Transition Deal of the Year” by IJGlobal 2025.
- Representation of a developer on the preparation of forms of supply, BOP and long-term services agreements for BESS projects in Chile.
- Representation of Termocandelaria Power on the EPC and development for the conversion from simple to nominal of its 566 MW TECAN combine-cycle power plant in Colombia.
International Arbitration
- Representation of a renewable energy fund in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration arising out of a joint investment agreement for the development of two 150 MW and 140 MW PV projects in Mexico.
- Representation of a contractor in a proceeding before the International Chamber of Commerce against the Employer related to the Panama Canal Third Set of Locks Project.
- Representation of a Japanese investor in an ICSID arbitration against the Kingdom of Spain under the Energy Charter Treaty in a dispute relating to the investment in a 50 MW CSP plant.
- Representation of a contractor in a proceeding before the project's Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB) against the Employer related to the Panama Canal Third Set of Locks Project.
- Representation of an international physical commodities trader in an interim relief proceeding before the Spanish courts for the attachment of a mineral shipment.
