Biography
Javier is a senior associate in White & Case’s Global Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Practice in Madrid. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation and arbitration, with particular experience in multi-jurisdictional disputes across a wide range of sectors.
He advises and represents clients in complex domestic and international proceedings, including commercial litigation before Spanish courts and arbitrations administered by leading institutions such as the ICC, LCIA and CAM, as well as in investment arbitration matters. He also advises clients in pre-litigious scenarios and is involved in proceedings before Dispute Adjudication Boards and arbitration-related court proceedings, including setting-aside proceedings and applications for interim measures.
Javier has handled a wide range of disputes, including contractual and non-contractual damages claims, as well as matters arising out of commercial transactions and M&A, particularly in sectors such as energy, infrastructure and construction. His work frequently involves cross-border matters across Europe and Latin America, where he coordinates teams, plays an active role in the development of case strategy and is valued for his pragmatic and commercially minded approach to complex disputes.
Beyond his core disputes practice, Javier has experience advising technology and social media companies on a broad range of matters, including regulatory issues and other legal challenges. He also advises on insolvency and white-collar related matters.
Javier is actively involved in academic and professional initiatives. He teaches arbitration at the Universidad de Navarra, regularly participates in seminars and conferences on arbitration and dispute resolution, and has published various articles and commentaries in this field.

- A multinational technology company in a dispute arising out of a Sale and Purchase Agreement, including arbitration proceedings and the development and implementation of the overall dispute strategy, as well as coordination of all relevant stakeholders.
- A Belgian industrial group in a post-M&A arbitration before the Madrid Court of Arbitration, involving claims of willful misconduct and subsequent setting-aside and enforcement proceedings.
- A British concessionaire in a Geneva-seated ICC arbitration arising out of the EPC contract of a US$1.2 billion motorway project in Eastern Europe, successfully settled to the benefit of the client.
- A biopharmaceutical company in a Geneva-seated arbitration concerning a services agreement for the development and GMP manufacturing of human fibroblast growth factor, successfully settled to the benefit of the client.
- A Latin American State in a PCA investment arbitration against a Spanish investor in a dispute related to the termination of a transport services concession.*
- A leading company in the Spanish electricity sector in an LCIA arbitration concerning costs incurred in the shipping of liquefied natural gas under a New York-law governed long-term sale and purchase agreement. *

- Globalvia and its subsidiary GVIT in various court proceedings concerning the control of Itínere Infraestructuras, including an extraordinary appeal before the Spanish Supreme Court.*
- A Spanish multinational electric utility company in an extraordinary appeal before the Spanish Supreme Court concerning a significant damages’ claim resulting from a power cut.*
- Iberdrola in litigation proceedings against the owner of the newspaper "El Confidencial" concerning the alleged infringement of its right to honor.
